Hidden Costs of Home Ownership

From jscreationzs (freedigitalphotos.net)

It is hard to swim against the current of the American Dream. Ads are telling us that now is the best time to buy a home. Hillary and I have chosen to rent a home and we are not missing home ownership. The other night Hillary said that she would not be disappointed if we never owned a home again.  I would agree based on our current experiences with renting.

Upon arriving at our rental our water heater broke and because we were renting, we didn’t have to pay for a new one.  Recently our washer started making really loud noises and we didn’t have to pay to have that replaced.  Our landlord is very gracious and has made renting a great experience.  Yesterday I read this article from USA Today which went through 20 hidden costs of home ownership. When the culture says bigger is better, renting a smaller home is worth considering in our opinion.
